WHERE IS ORTEGA

The Ortega Point is in the 32210 zipcode of Jacksonville, Florida, which is in the north eastern part of Florida. Ortega is in the central part of Jacksonville, along the western side of the St. Johns River. It is approximately 30 minutes away from the ocean, and 6.5 hours away from Athens, Georgia. It is near many commercial buildings, but with Jacksonville being 885 square miles, it is also very far from many commercial buildings at the same time.

ACCESSIBILITY

Those who live in Jacksonville or Ortega know the general rule that you need to give yourself at least 20 minutes to get anywhere on time, espcially if the place was on the opposite side of the river. There are two main bridges used to cross the river, The Buckman Bridge and i-95. The Buckman Bridge was about 15 minutes from my house, while i-95 was about 10 minutes away, but both are known for their terrible traffic.

My home was close to my elementary school, but pretty far away from everything else that was most relevant to me. My gymnastics practice was 20 minutes away, diving practice varied locations that were 25 minutes away to over an hour away, and my high school was 45 minutes away in traffic, and 10 minutes away without traffic.

ABOUT ORTEGA

The Ortega Point is a small neighborhood of 72 historic homes on the western side of Jacksonville, Florida, and is the neighborhood I grew up in.

It is located on a peninsula and is surrounded by the large St. John's River on all three sides.

The neighborhood contains massive live oaks and historic homes from the late 19th century. It is also nearby the elementary schools, hospitals, and stores, but close to an hour away from the high schools. The local Jacksonville Weather Forecast can be seen to the right.

The neighborhood also includes a historic landmark, The Ortega Drawbridge, which while beautiful and historic, it only works half the time and causes lots of traffic issues.
